MEDICATIONS
There are many medications available to a patient who suffers from osteoarthritis of the knee. Depending on your diagnosis and pain, your doctor will help you decide the best medications to take for your knee pain.
Over-the-counter (OTC) medications, which are found at your local pharmacy, offer temporary pain relief for mild to moderate osteoarthritis without a lot of side effects. There are some OTC products that may have side effects that could result due to long-term use. Consult your doctor prior to taking any medication.
Prescription medications are prescribed under the care of your doctor and are offered when OTC medications no longer provide pain relief. Your doctor will review all medications you are taking as well as your pain level prior to prescribing the appropriate prescription pain reliever and dosage for your knee pain.
